Tips for Creating a Video with the Lightboard

Here are some tips and best practices for working with the Lightboard:

Preparing to Shoot Your Video

• Keep it short - Lightboard videos should be a single topic that can fit easily on a single board. If your video requires erasing or a second board, it is likely too long. 
• Organize your content - Develop an outline or full script and rehearse it ahead of time. The more prepared you are to shoot the video, the easier the process will be.
• Practice on a whiteboard - Spacing can be an issue on the Lightboard. If you are able, it can be helpful to practice any drawings and text ahead of time on a whiteboard.

What to Wear

• Dark, solid colors (grey, navy, deep reds, etc.) are best. The markers are neon colors, and tend to blend in with light shades and become hard to read. 
• Avoid wearing black so you do not blend in with the background.
• Do not wear clothing with any text or logos on it. The image is flipped horizontally after filming to allow the text and drawings you create on the Lightboard to be read. However, this will render any text or logos on your clothing illegible. 

Shooting the Video

• Stay close to the board. Stepping away from the board will cause you to become shadowed out in the video and may also affect the camera focus, making you appear blurry.
• Try to leave room for yourself as your write. Be conscious of the space as your draw and write on the board. Move to the side as you write and lecture so as to not cover your face with text.
• Point at content. When you are speaking about something you have put on the board, point to it to draw attention to that specific item. 
• Look at the camera when lecturing. When you are not drawing or writing, you will want to address the camera as it represents your audience.
